“I’ll tell you what’s not original, and more worrying,” Tim declared. “This is written in the same style as the letters we got in the US, but the postmark is local. You know what it means, right?”

When Raven did not reply, he continued impatiently.

“Whoever was stalking us in Arizona has followed us over here. We have a serious crazy on our hands, Raven.”

As she remained stubbornly silent, Holly asked a question of her own.

“How many threatening letters have you received in total?”

“This is the fifth one,” Tim answered. “First dead bird.”

“Rav, I know you said not to worry before, but this thing is escalating. We have to get security now,” Rosie pleaded.

“I agree,” Amelie nodded. “Hundred percent.”

“Especially since we have big numbers on the retreat,” Janet chimed in. “Fifty-three participants in all… We must consider their safety as well as ours.”

“We have to report this to the police,” Sam concluded.

The entire team watched their leader anxiously. Poor Rosie appeared right on the edge of tears again. It did not take a mind reader to figure that Raven must have been reluctant to consider the threats seriously before, but now, Holly did not see how she could continue. It seemed Raven reached the same conclusion.

“Okay,” she said. “Sam, Janet; can you take that box to the police station and explain the situation?”

“Yes!” both replied in unison.

“Tim, will you call the security firm you talked to me about before?”

“Sure thing, Rav,” he agreed, looking relieved.

He took out his phone. Janet and Sam grabbed the box and note, and hurried out the door. Amelie went to join the retreat attendees. Raven turned to the youngest member of her team.

“Rose?”

“Yes!” She jumped. “What can I do?”

“Nothing,” Raven said. “Have a seat, relax. Let me make you a cup of tea.”
